For those of you who are interested in completing all or part of the FEMA/Oregon Emergency Management Professional Development Series on Emergency Management - three of the courses will no longer be taught by OEM in the State of Oregon, but are available to download and complete independently. Information about these courses follows.
Also note that there is a whole additional series of Independent Study Courses for Emergency Management available through FEMA at http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/. The EMI Independent Study program consists of self-paced courses designed for both the general public and people who have emergency management responsibilities. They are offered free-of-charge to all who qualify for enrollment, and college credit can be obtained through a for-fee service after successful completion of a course. Click on the COLLEGE CREDIT item in the menu to the left of this page for details.
Each Independent Study Course includes lessons with practice exercises and a final examination. Those who score 75 percent or better are issued a certificate of achievement from EMI. Course completion times vary from two to fourteen hours, depending on the course and the student's background. Peggy
Three new Independent Study courses are now available from the EMI Independent Study Office and are available for download at http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/EMICourses/.
IS-240: Leadership and Influence
IS-241: Decision Making and Problem Solving
IS-242: Effective Communications
These are three of the seven courses in the Professional Development Series (PDS). In fulfillment of the PDS Certificate of Completion requirements, FEMA will accept certificates from either the classroom or the Independent Study version of the course.
Please note - OEM will no longer be teaching #241 - Decision Making or Problem Solving, so you will need to take the Independent Study course to complete this course requirement.
